Michiganders Leave For Transit

Posted to MichiganNow.org on Saturday, August 16, 2014

INTRO: M1 Rail has finally started on Woodward in Detroit. Not the passengers yet but crews tearing up pavement and laying down steel. The project costs about $150 million. One third is public money, one third is foundations and the billionaires put in about one third. In Europe, the public is used to paying for it all because they see the benefits of it. Michiganders in their ’20’s and ’30’s like cars less and trains more. They’re willing to leave their home state forever because of this. Former Grand Rapids Public Radio reporter Nikki Motson sent this report.
