League Of Conservation Voters Target Sen. Bishop

Posted to MichiganNow.org on Thursday, March 18, 2010

INTRO: The Michigan League of Conservation Voters is returning to its original mission….. scoring politicians’ votes on the environment. More from Michigan Now’s Chris McCarus.

The League of Conservation Voters is targeting several members of state government. They’re using websites. The first one is mi eye on bishop dot blogspot dot com. Mike Bishop is a Rochester Republican. He’s also the senate majority leader. Lisa Wozniak wants the public to put pressure on him.

“Ask Mike Bishop why he purports to be supportive of transforming our economy to clean and renewable energy and then what he’s done to make that happen. Ask Mike Bishop what he’s done to preserve and protect our Great Lakes. Our current attorney general, whether folks agree with him on other issues, he has been very outspoken on the Asian carp issue. And if Mike Bishop hopes to be the person that replaces Attorney General Mike Cox, why has he not said one thing about the Asian carp’s potential invasion of our lakes.”

Bishop’s campaign website says he’s “protecting our state’s cherished natural resources.” Wozniak was speaking near the Grand River in Lansing. It flows just 3 blocks east of the state capital. Biologists fear Asian carp could try to spawn in it.
