Hundreds of engineers and business people are talking about Plug In Electric vehicles in Detroit today. They say plug ins are the next big thing that could lift the economy. More from Chris McCarus

Retired Army General Wesley Clark urged the crowd attending this 3 day conference to build vehicles that will be cheap and fun. If you do that, Clark said, you’ll also help American national security.

“1988 the Tanker war, 1991 the first Gulf War, 2003 and all that has followed in Afghanistan with Osama Bid Laden and the war on terror is deeply connected to our requirement to import petroleum and export dollars.”

General Clark said The U.S. government should take its time deciding what’s next in Afghanistan. But he said hurry up and steer the economy toward new technologies and new markets. Governor Granholm and Bill Ford Jr are expected here tomorrow at the Motor City Casino. I’m Chris McCarus.
